The course covers basic keyboarding skills, as well as learning aspects of Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Excel formulas and charts, and advanced internet research skills.
Students are given a typing speed goal of 30 adjusted words per minute at the end of the semester. Students already typing at this rate or faster will be expected to make appropriate improvement.

Software Resources: For the keyboarding lessons, we will be using Powertyping.com, an internet typing program. Another site for at home practice is FreeTypingGames.net. Students should practice at home if they want to make good progress. We use Microsoft Office Professional XP, which includes Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additional internet sites are often used for research and collaboration. The on-line submission site of www.Edmodo.com is used to reduce paper use and submit work. This can be accessed at both home and school (see link on Home page).
Materials needed: Student need to bring their agenda/planner and a pen or pencil to class daily. All other materials are kept in the computer lab. I will sell a student a pencil or loan one using a cell phone or i-pod as collateral. By middle school, students should be able to take this responsibility.
Cheating/Plagiarism: Students who are caught cheating/plagiarizing will receive a zero score for the assignment and will be required to write a letter to their parents notifying them of the infraction. The letter will need to be signed by the student and parent and returned to the teacher. Cheating includes using the copy tool to repeat multiple lines of type.
Classroom Rules:
1. Student remain seated unless getting projects from printer.
2. No ipods or other personal music devices unless teacher approved
3. Student will treat school computers with respect and leave settings as they find them.
4. No personal email, instant messaging on school computers. Social networking sites are used under teacher administration ONLY.
5. Students are on the internet ONLY when directed to do so by teacher and ONLY on approved sites.
Assignments: Students will have daily assignments, vocabulary work, research, major projects, and tests. Daily assignments are done in class, therefore homework is minimal. In-class participation is based on attendance and punctuality, attentiveness to the task at hand, using agenda when necessary, and clean-up at the end of class.
Passes: Student MUST have an agenda to leave class for any reason or a detention will be issued.
Make Up/Late Work Policy: Students are given as much time as they need, within reason, to complete the assigned work. This is a hands-on class and therefore late work is generally not an issue Student falling behind should make use of the library lab during lunch, use the computer lab during advisory on Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday, or come in after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays.
Communication with Parent/Student concerning progress: If you need to contact us, email is the best way. We are always happy to update you via email. You can also contact us through the school website. Mrs. Rembold has a class website:
