Spanish Class Syllabus
Un Viaje a México
CONGRATULATIONS! You are going to Mexico (armchair travel only!) for the next quarter at BMS! We will learn a little new vocabulary (plus review some important words from last year…), try out some new Hispanic art forms, and celebrate the Spanish festival of Cinco de Mayo (even if it is November!) Hopefully…we will have a great time and learn a little Spanish along the way!
Numbers (los Numeros) y Colors (los Colores)
La Escuela (School words) y Mi Casa (My House)
El Tiempo (Weather & Time)
Common Phrases (¿Cómo Estas?)
El Cuerpo (The Body)
Common Courtesy (Por Favor)
Class Procedures and Guidelines
1. When you enter class, please check the board for directions, you’re your notebook, and go to your seat. Sharpen pencils BEFORE the bell rings. Have your materials out and ready BEFORE the bell rings.
2. Leave your notebook (with paper) and pencil in class. You will maintain a personal dictionary in your notebook as well as keep other papers passed out in class organized.
3. Please raise your hand and be recognized before speaking in class.
4. We will not learn the Spanish for foul or inappropriate language (including “sucks”), so please don’t use the English in class.
5. Treat your classmates with respect. No put-downs. Everyone will mispronounce words and make mistakes – none of you talked perfect English as a toddler either!
6. Please remain seated until excused by the teacher. (The bell is NOT your teacher!)
7. Grades will be based on your participation and class cooperation as well as projects and quizzes. This will NOT be a Spanish 1 level class – it will be recreational Spanish, but I do expect you to learn something! Points will be given for various activities and assignments. A=90%+, B=80%, C=70%, D=56%, Under 55% = F
8. If you are absent, see me AFTER class. This is your responsibility.
9. Failure to following basic classroom rules may result in a refocus, sentences, detention, or referral.
Supplies needed for class – you will have a tray to leave everything IN CLASS!
