Orientation Day is over and I am impressed with my new students! We are going to have a great year! My schedule is crazy as I bounce back and forth all day long from the downstairs Computer Lab to the upstairs Art Room, but students have been patient to wait for me to open up the next room. The Art Room was chaos the first week of school as we spent two days marbling paper (suminagashi) and using dye with absorbent paper for other projects. So many pieces to let dry! This week we've been paper folding as we learned the origami to make a crane, frog, and fish. I was impressed how many students knew the story of Sudako and the Thousand Cranes!
The Spanish class has been learning our numbers this week and started an art project today using yarn based on the work of the Huichol Indians of the Sierra Madre Mountains. Beautiful stuff! It will develop patience to glue down all those separate little strings!
